The third International Veterinary Social Work Summit was held recently in Tennessee, USA, from April 11 to April 13. The theme of this year's summit was "Is there a role for social work in the care and welfare of animals?"
Keynote speakers included Dr Temple Grandin, who presented on "Understanding Animal Behaviour, and Dr Hal Herzog, who gave the presentation "Why Do Humans (only Humans) Keep Pets?"
Our president, Dr Katherine van Ekert, also hosted a workshop entitled "Animal Sentience and its Implications for Human-Animal Interactions – Concepts for Animal Professionals".
