Release of New Code for Use of Animals in Research
August 16, 2013

The NHMRC's new edition of the Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes was released this month. The Code is incorporated under animal welfare or animal research laws in all states and territories.
Sentient submitted comments during the public consultation period in December 2011. Revisions were developed through consultation with animal welfare organisations (RSPCA and Animals Australia), researchers and teachers, institutions, members of animal ethics committees, state and territory governments, the Australian Research Council, the CSIRO and Universities Australia.
We are yet to review the new Code and will keep you updated on our response. For now, the new code and submissions, including that from Sentient, can be viewed HERE.
