National day of action to end greyhound racing

March 26, 2016

Organised by the Coalition for the Protection of Greyhounds, February 7 2016 was the first national day of action to end greyhound racing in Australia.

Alongside Greens MP Senator Lee Rhiannon and Senator Mark Pearson from the Animal Justice Party, Sentient's President Dr Rosemary Elliott addressed the rally, outlining our objections to this industry on both animal welfare and ethical grounds.

This national day of action was particularly significant in NSW, with the outcome of the Special Commission of Inquiry into the Greyhound Racing Industry in NSW due by the end of March. For the first time, one of the tasks of an inquiry is to recommend whether greyhound racing should be allowed to continue.
